ABOUT US
Welcome to The Jessica Journals (we happily share the name and couldn’t resist!). We began this blog because we are both avid bookworms and writers who appreciate the work of others and want to experiment with our own creative writing. Both of us have recently studied English with Creative Writing and completed our creative dissertations alongside each other.
Our blog also explores films and TV shows, both separately and in conjunction with literature. We look forward to reviewing books, films and TV shows in long and short-form reviews.
Meet Jess
Hello lovely readers! I am a huge fan of everything from classic novels to short, gothic stories, and also have a love of historical fiction. I decided to study English and Writing at uni after reading Angela Carter’s short story collection in Sixth Form, but I’ve loved reading since I was little, often choosing The Famous Five.
For my dissertation, I wrote a romantic short story set in the Tudor period. While I hope to continue some historical writing, I’d also like to explore a range of time periods, styles and forms.
As mentioned, we’re looking forward to reviewing films and TV too. Some of my favourite cinema picks include Black Swan, Edward Scissorhands and 10 Things I Hate About You.
Meet Jessie
Hi everyone! I have always been very passionate about all things books, films and TV shows. As a child, the most exciting Christmas gift I could receive was a book. I, too, was in love with The Famous Five series, and some of my favourite childhood films are The Secret of Moonacre and The Spiderwick Chronicles, all of which I adore to this day. As an adult, I consume content of most genres but my favourites are fantasy, literary and historical fiction, and, if we're getting specific, my absolute favourite is tragic romance. I also enjoy YA, and it is my favourite to write. For my dissertation, I wrote the opening to a YA lit fic with elements of surrealism. I am looking forward to further experimenting with my writing on this blog and in the rest of my life, with the end goal of becoming an author!
